Testing Wrks AI Browser end to end
Extension v0.1.8 · updated 28 July 2026
In one line
The extension is only the browser half. All processing happens in Wrks AI Desk, a desktop application on the same machine, so you need that app running and signed in to see the extension do anything.
Test account
The username and password are in the Test instructions tab of our dashboard submission, under Tester credentials. If they are missing or no longer work, email [email protected] and we will reissue them the same day. Sign-in lasts 24 hours, so you may be asked to sign in again on a later pass.
-
Install the desktop app
Windows installer, about 152 MB, no admin rights needed:
https://dl.wrks-desk.onpod.ai/WrksAIDesk-Setup-0.1.8.exeIt is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen shows a blue dialog once. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
A macOS build exists at the same location, but Apple notarisation is still in progress, so Gatekeeper will block it. Please use the Windows build.
-
Sign in — this happens in your browser, not in the app
Launch the app. The first screen is “Start with your Wrks AI account”. Click “Sign in with Wrks AI”.
Your default browser opens the Wrks AI sign-in page. Sign in with the test account, then approve the consent screen. The browser hands the result back to the app on 127.0.0.1 and the app moves on by itself. The app shows “Finish signing in in your browser…” while it waits.
-
Install the extension and open the side panel
Open the side panel from the toolbar icon or with Ctrl+Shift+K. On first run it asks you to pick one of three approval levels; any of them is fine.
-
Approve the browser, once, in the app
The app raises a dialog titled “Connect Wrks AI Browser?”. Click Connect. This is deliberate: an unapproved browser cannot talk to the app at all. After that the side panel header reads “Wrks AI Desk linked” with a green dot.
-
Try it on a page
Open any ordinary web page and ask something about it in the side panel, for example “summarise this page”. Then try an action, for example “click the search button”. An approval card appears in the panel naming the exact element before anything happens.
Select a sentence on the page to see the selection toolbar (Ask / Explain / Translate / Rewrite).
What you see if you skip the app
The side panel shows a single card, “Turn on Wrks AI Desk”, with a retry button. That is the intended and complete behaviour, not a broken state. These parts still work with no app present:
- The first-run screen where you choose an approval level
- The options page — three approval levels, the per-site allow list, the site categories excluded by default, and the switch for remembering pages (off by default)
- The selection toolbar on any page
Why the extension needs broad host access
It is a general assistant for whatever page the person is working on: an internal admin tool, a supplier portal, a government filing site, a web mail client. Those hosts differ for every customer, so no fixed list of match patterns can express it.
- A page is read only when the user asks, uses a selection action, or runs a task they scheduled. Never in the background.
- Banking and brokerage, adult and piracy sites are excluded by default.
- Card number, national ID and bank account fields, and payment confirmation buttons, are refused on every site regardless of any setting.
- Page content goes to the app on the same machine over 127.0.0.1 only. The extension itself makes no outbound network request.
Anything unclear or not working, email [email protected] — we answer the same day. Our privacy policy covers the extension in its own section.
